  • Capture problem DSR11 deck to Powerbook – “no video”

Posted by Aaamanda on April 26, 2006 at 2:03 pm

    Hello,

Having successfully captured from MiniDV last week, I am trying to capture a clip from a DVCAM tape playing on a Sony DSR11 deck (via firewire) to a Powerbook running FCP.

FCP is receiving timecode, preview is disabled so I’m getting the colour bar/test pattern screen, but when I hit “Now” in Log & Capture mode, I get the following message:

“The operation could not be completed as there is no video.”

It worked last week with exactly the same setup, why isn’t it working now???

If timecode is being sent over the firewire connection, why not video???

    Any help greatly appreciated!!

    Thanks!

    Quit FCP.

    Power down the deck.

    Disconnect the firewire cable.

    Reconnect the firewire cable.

Turn the power on the deck.

    Launch FCP.

    It should be there.

Thanks David. I tried that. I should have mentioned that my successful capture last week was MiniDV Pal – I’m in the UK.

The DVCAM tape I’m working with now is NTSC. I’ve changed the capture, firewire and sequence settings to NTSC but it keeps saying “no video”.

I tried a MiniDV Pal tape to see if it was the system at fault, but it worked perfectly. It’s just this NTSC tape that won’t work!

Did you flip the switch on the back of the deck to change it to NTSC?

Yes, finally I did figure that one out!! Too late for the project I was working on, but I’ll know for next time!

Thanks so much, David, for your help and advice.
