  how to get audio on both channels

  I am using FCP 4.5 on a dual 2GHz

  Everything works great but I have never been able to get this issue resolved
  I capture from DV tape with a video track and two mono tracks in to FCP

  I delete audio track 2 in the timeline, as it is a duplicate of channel 1

  when I export the sequence as a QT movie, self contained or reference, I am unable to get the clip to play back on both left and right channels in QT player.

  I have selected the ‘mixdown’ button in the audio mixer which does indead output audio track 1 to both left and right channels within FCP to my edit room speakers.

  when I export the sequence to a QT file, it only plays the left channel.

  Can anyone suggest what I have to do to have audio track 1 output on both channels?

  Select all of the tracks int he timeline.

  Go to Modify>AUDIO>PAN CENTER

  It is now a mono track playing back on the left and right side.

  Thanks for replying to my post

  Your suggestion does not work for me unfortunately
  On checking why this did not work, I looked at the audio mixer. On all the the audio tracks I am using, the pan slider is greyed out

  If I double click the audio clip to launch it into the viewer, the wave form shows with the pan and level slider settings. I can alter the levels settings and I can hear the change on my speakers
  I can alter the pan settings but it does not change the sound on my speakers

  So something is preventing me from altering the pan on all clips

  The only thing that makes audio work on both chanels is if I copy each audio clip from track one and paste it into track two, but this is impractical with hundreds of clips to alter.

  Do a test with bars and tone,

  20 sec of bars and tone into the timline then mute track 2

  Select the track one clip (make sure it is highlighted in teh timeline) and then do the modify >AUDIO>PAN CENTER.

  If this works then it has something to do with hhow the original clips were captured.

  OR
  It has somethingt to do with you monitoring.

  Are you using a mixer?Maybe the mixer is panned to the left only.

  Hello David, thanks again for replying

  tried B&T and doing as you suggest, still has playback on left channel only from track 1 audio

  I did not expect this to work as the pan is already centred in the FCP audio mixer, which is grayed out – it cant be adjusted and the output master display only shows left signal present.

  when I make a QT ref file of this, again only left channel has audio

  I am not using an external mixer, my powered speakers are directly connected to the Mac line output, they output what the audio mixer shows. Both output channels work if there is an audio track in both track 1 and 2 but just cant get audio to route to both left and right from a single track

  problem solved

  I discovered by comparing earlier projects, that
  in Sequence Settings > Audio Outputs >
  the Grouping was set to mono

  changing thus to stereo allows the pan controls in audio mixer to be changed and outputs audio to both channels
