  Strange signs in Viewer and bowties in timeline

  Hi,

  I asked the User Assistants in lab and they didn’t know what to make of these: There is now a yellow triangle with a black exclamation mark when I pause play in the Viewer window, and a green circle with a black check mark, sometimes also with a small upwards arrow, when I play the clip, and the windows or certain whiter spots in the footage now have diagonal lines screening them that sort of flash. Also, when I drag the in and out points from the viewer to the timeline, there is snapping but red bowties link each new subclip to the previous one, except for one time between two original clips from the browser. This is new to me; should I be worried about this?

  This is range check function. Toggle it on and off with Control-Z. The diagonal lines are called zebra. (PC user come over to the Mac?)

  Drag In and Out points from the Viewer to the Timeline???? Does not compute. Do you mean dragging a clip from the Viewer to the Timeline? Snapping red bowtie links? Do you mean two pairs of inward pointing red triangles? These are Through Edit marks. This happens if you have shots with contiguous timecode next to each other. If your subclips all came from one shot and where laid in the Timeline back to back, they’d all have Through Edit marks and be basically unedited.

  Hi Tom,

  Wow…wow! The response fits perfectly with what I’ve been doing, even with my descriptions not accurately named , thank you; now I know to look up range function if I want to fix something with the brightness or such. And yes, I’m mainly using Macs to work with FCP, have done damage once giving someone instructions since, through limited use of the Mac version of Word, I thought Ctrl functions were somehow similar in Macs as in PC @_@ (expunged 3 minutes of their typing).
