    Hello,

I’m a newbie and need to ask weather anyone can help me with FCP.

I have been placing a lot of still images into my projects, and have been adjusting the duration of the still shots manually, to each individual file.

My first question is, is there is a way you can adjust the duration of multiple still shots all at once? eg. select 30 stills and adjust the duration, seeing the effect in the timeline. The closest method I have found is to adjust the duration in the Still/Freeze Duration field (User Preferences>Editing>Still/Freeze Duration) and then import all of the stills into the project. By setting the field I found this constrained the imported pictures to the desired duration. However any changes to the same batch needed to be done manually and individually. Hopefully there is a better way.

My second question is, are there any tutorials that explain the correct way to back-up files properly in FCP.

Any help would be appreciated and I’m a big fan of the COW (and CALF).

Thanks for all your efforts in keeping the COW going and please don’t stop the Podcast.

    Kind Regards

What do you want to backup? The project files, audio and graphics are what you need to backup. Burn them on a disc.

    All the best,

    Dear Tom,

    I appreciate your feedback.

The files that I’d like to back-up are: All the linked files, transitions and basically anything to do with the project. I want to archive them all to fit on one DVD (4.7GB)

The duration of the project is only 12 mins or so on average most projects should fit onto one disc. I could use DVD Studio Pro to complete a back-up of a complete aurthored project. However, I would still like to preserve a FCP version in case an alteration is required at a later date.

The link you replied with (https://www.fcpbook.com/Effects3.html) was exactly what I was wanting to know and I thank you.

    Kind regards

    Joseph

If you want to backup the media as well, but trim it down to just what was used in the final edit, use Media Manager. Select whatever you want to back up, run Media Manager and choose the copy function. Check delete unused and make a new project with that material. Burn the copied material to a DVD.

    All the best,
