Why Switch to FCP from DVxpress pro
I have been an AVID editor for years and I am having a difficult time embracing FCP. I am about to cut a pilot for an MTV style show and I wanted to know why I should use FCP instead of xpress pro. The show will be shot HD and won’t have many effects. I can’t think of a reason not to use Xpress pro, but the producers like the idea of FCP.
Someone please tell me why you love this program so much and if you know of any way to learn it quickly.Thanks

You can’t learn any application quickly if you need to use it professionally. If you comfortable with Xpress, stick with Xpress.

Only way to learn it is to use it. Avid Xpress Pro only has HD on the PC version at the moment – happy using PCs?
If you’re just doing straight cuts, with an online media HD workflow, there should be nothing in it. All should work just fine.

It’s like anything else, it seems like such a pain before you get started. It’s really not that bad. I’m an xpro driver too and am forced into FCP by my new job. Granted, there’s no time constraint…yet, so I’m playing with it and it’s not any worse than the learning curve I faced going from M100 (rip) to AVID. Tom Wolsky has written a book that’s helping alot to de-mystify the transition. If you need speed for your project, I’d cut on the AVID. IF time isn’t as critical learn FCP it’s worth the trouble.
