keying lower third banner and moving text
I have two simple questions. First, we have an animated lower third banner we need to key over a :30 spot. I have the banner without an alpha, just over black. I also have a black and white animated hole cutter. Video 1 is the spot, video 2 is the animated banner. I apply a Image Mask filter to the banner. I tried dragging the black and white clip in and making that the mask. It didn’t work, I don’t know why. I made a still out of the clip and then used that as my mask source and it kind of worked. Banner has opacity to it, no idea why. Plus, I need to use the black and white clip as my hole cutter to track the animated flash wipe on. How can I do this?
I also need to add text on top of the banner. I can create the text but FCP won’t let me move it. I have tried selecting the text and going into motion, but this doesn’t do anything. My values change but the text doesn’t move. Suggestions?

Put the matte layer (the B&W hole cutter) on V2. Put the lower third on V3. To the lower third apply Modify>Composite Mode>Travel Matte – Luma.
You animate the text either in the controls of the text using the Origin value, or animate the Center value in the Motion tab. If you made the text using Title 3D you should animate it using it’s control functions not the Motion tab.
