  transfer media to laptop via external harddrive

  I have media captured on the G5 (external Lacie) and want to transfer to laptop. The icon for Lacie opens on the laptop, and media files appear, but are offline, and I cannot find them to reconnect. Any advice in how to transfer media?
  I also had this problem when I tried to transfer from another G4 to the external drive. What am I doing wrong?
