  Increasing Low Audio Levels (From poorly recorded source clips)

  I have a video clip that contains VERY LOW audio levels. Something must have happened while recording this one clip since the other clips are fine. Is there any way to increase the levels (quite a bit) in FCP without getting too much fuzz? I am trying to avoid reinterviewing the person.

  Do you have Soundtrack Pro? Try and fix it in there with Normalize and noise reduction. If it’s really low it’ll be hard because simply raising the levels will raise the noise floor as well. The noise reduction in STP is OK for quiet backgrounds, though it does tend to make the atmos a bit dead; if the background noise is too great noise reduction tends to produce nasty flanging. That said you should be able to do a lot more in STP than you can in FInal Cut.
