  FCP 5 and KONA black levels

  I am trying to isolate a problem I am having with black levels. I am using the Kona LS card (with the control panel set to 7.5 ire) and FCP 5. Is there any conversion that FCP or Kona is doing that would take black levels that should be 7.5 and make them 0 during encoding? Doesn’t FCP follow the settings of the capture card as far as black levels? When I look at black levels on the FCP scopes, if I encoded at 7.5 shouldn’t the scope read 7.5 once on the timeline?

  My problem is that black levels are changing between 0 and 7.5 at different times either on footage capture or program export.

  Any assistance would be appreciated.

  Black levels should always be at zero in FCP. Digital video has no notion of 7.5IRE setup. Digital black is always, worldwide at code 16, which FCP represents as 0%.
