Final Cut wont continue the timecode using edit to tape.
I have tried to use assemble in “edit to tape”.
My problem is that final cut wont continue the timecode that already is on the tape.
Final cut starts recording a random timecode, and for each time i try its a new timecode.
my deck is set to “tc – regen”, and ive tryed both digibeta and dvcpro 50.
Can anyone tell me what im doing wrong and what i should do?Thank You!

Regen works by recording TC from the last time the deck wrote TC unless it has been reset. Most professional decks do not pre-read TC and write continuously from that. Consumer decks and cameras do that.

I do this all the time and there is no reason you cannot get continuous TC on the Tape.
1. open edit to tape
2. Select black and code, after the dialog box appears tell FCP what tC you want tothe tape to start at:I often set the start TC to 00:58:30:00
Let FCP black and code the tape for a minut or two.
rewind the tape.3.Set an IN tc in edit to tape window (I use 00:58:40:00, one minute of color bar, ten seconds SLATE, ten seconds black and the program starts at :01:00:00:00
4. Drag your timeline over the assemble edit window.
This works.

Most professional decks do not preread the timecode as David described. Regen TC means that the deck will continue writing timecode based on the last number it wrote. So if you stop recording at 1:00:20:10, and then rewind to the one hour mark the next number the deck will write will be 1:00:20:11 regardless of where it is on the tape. Using David’s method, on professional decks (especially on Sony pro decks) you set the TC to 58:30:00:00 and write past the one hour mark. You then set your assemble point at one hour, and you reset the deck to generate TC beginning at 1:00:00:00.
