    Hello all,

FCP does not detect firewire devices. I have a 1Ghz powerbook with OS 10.4. I am using FCP5 with a Sony DSR20 deck using firewire. When I am just working on the laptop and not with the deck or camera FCP works fine, but when I turn on the deck or camera, FCP won’t detect that a firewire device is on. I have changed firewire cables and plugged in the firewire directly into the laptop but FCP will not detect the DV device. I have purged the prefs too. Is there something else I have forgotten about.

My flow is laptop firewired to the harddrives which is firewired to the deck to the monitor.

    This is puzzling.

    Thanks to all.

Also, is there any plugin issues with this firewire problem?
    Thanks in advance.

Have you done an external device refresh from within FCP? Also, FCP prefers it when your deck is powered on before you launch the App.

I have never actually ever tried to digitise to a hard drive from a camera that was daisychained on the same port (if I have read your post correctly that’s what you’re doing?) – I don’t think that’s gonna work anyway…
