    Hello all,

I am totally new to final cut pro and am having a problem. I am ripping video from a dvd using yade x to a vob and then converting that vob to m2v and then using DIVa to convert to .mov to edit in a final cut timeline. Before I got here, Everything was working fine but somewhere along the way I cacked up the settings.

I am using DV/DVCPRO NTSC compression to convert to move and the same compression format in final cut pro. I used to be getting interlacing problems but I de-interlaced and that problem went away, but now everything either looks like it is missing frames or the quality is degraded quite significantly. I am certain the problem lies before the final cut stage but am not sure.

Also, if i am burning to dvd, which aspect ratio should I be using? (it will be played at night clubs primarily.) Do I save the imported vobs as 640×480 or 720×480?

What I would ultimately like to know, is what I am doing even correct? Is there a faster way of doing this?

    Please Help!

    Thanks

Use mpeg streamclip to convert your VOBs directly to DV MOV:

    https://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/video/mpegstreamclip.html

It’s a free tool, and works very very well. You can even select in and out points on your VOB for conversion.

640×480 is not a video res – 720×480 is NTSC. If you use mpeg streamclip, you should also solve the interlacing problem you’re having.

Ok thank you for your reply. It all seems to be working correctly now. Have you ever heard of digital clippin on the edges of video coming from a dvd? could that have been because I was importing as 640×480?
