  Can’t capture

  Afternoon ladies and gents,
  I recently tried to import footage from a dv tape into FCE on my G4 Powerbook and the strangest thing happened. I clicked on the Capture button and then the entire program quit. There wasn’t an error message saying there had been a unexpected termination or anything. I thought it may have had something to do with the camera or fireware, but I noticed that iChat and iMovie were able to operate the camera with no problems. I was even able to import the footage through iMovie. Could the problem have to do with the new Mac OS 10.4 being installed on my computer?

  I would check out where you have told FCP to capture the media too (as in which drive). You can set this in the user settings, set it and then try it again.

  It sounds to me like the program might be quitting when it is trying to calculate avaiable disk space.

  David has a good point. FCP would ‘hang’ on capture if it was having disk problems.

  As a general rule for troubleshooting, even before you ask anyone or post anything: you should restart your Mac (see if that works) and then trash FP prefs (see if it works then)

  If it’s a capture problem you should try another drive to see if the problem continues.
