Activity Forums Apple Final Cut Pro Legacy Big file sizes

My file size is approaching 200 MB’s and it’s now giving me problems. FCP 6.0.6 with Mavericks on a 2012 rMBP with 16 GB of ram. I get green screens and other graphical glitches and random crashes. When I deleted some sequences and reduced the file size, the problems go away.

How does FCPX handle large file sizes compared to the legacy versions?

FCP legacy always had issues with project file sizes that went over 100MB. Well, not for everyone, but I always had issues. So instead of duplicating sequences when I made changes, I would duplicate projects. And run multiple projects.

If you never had this issue before, I’m wondering if it might be an issue with FCP 6 on an unsupported OS. But since this was an issue on supported OS versions, that might not be it.

It’s also never a bad idea to run drive diagnostics and check for enough virtual RAM space on the system drive..

I’d like to give a FCPX a try. But the free demo only works with Yosemite and up. Bit of a dilemma.
