  Adding “flickering lights” into videos

  Hi,

  at around the 0:12 and 0:25 mark you can see they add in some sort of flickering light.
  I’ve heard it’s part of Final Cut Pro but I can’t seem to locate it…any ideas?

  This should be quite easy to do. Go to video generators/matte/color. Make it any color you like and then place it above the video track. Turn down the opacity then chop it up into small segments and remove alternate segments so that it flashes on and off. You can also stack different colors one above the other.

  Hi,

  Thank you for your response. Under Generators, I only have Backgrounds, Elements, Solids and Textures. No “matte/color.” Am I looking in the right section?

  Oh wait, I found a transition that looks similar to the video. However, how do I change the color and opaqueness? Right hand clicking doesn’t seem to be working.

  are you using FCPX?

  Ahh, Nick beat me to it. Yes this forum is for FCP7 and earlier. I’m not the sharpest tool in the box when it comes to FCPX, however, here’s a demo of how to change the color and opacity of a generator in X.

  They are called Light Leaks and they can be found in a number of plug-ins or transitions from 3rd party developers like Digital Juice or Film Impact.

  Well he did say “within FCP”, or words to that effect. But thanks for posting this info Joe. I just downloaded some Light Leaks to try, they look cool. :o)

  Rampant offers a ton of these light leaks and other film grunge: a number of them are free. You just add them to the video track above where you want the effect, set the blend mode and done.
