  • FCP 7 and Compressor – Audio Streams vs Channels

Posted by Burke Archer on August 6, 2015 at 3:02 pm

    Hello,

I’m trying to export videos from FCP 7 using compressor that have separate audio streams, stream 1 for 5.1 and stream 2 for stereo mix. I understand how to set channels in FCP, but the best I am able to do is get the 5.1 and stereo in one stream when exporting in compressor, but I need the following:

    5.1 + Stereo: Stream 1 (L/R/C/LFE/Ls/Rs) + Stream 2 (Lt/Rt)

Does anyone have experience with this? Any help would be much appreciated!

Can’t export TO COMPRESSOR and get this. You need to export a QT movie, self contained, and assign the audio. Like this

Thanks- it seems though that at most I can assign two channels to one stream, making a stereo stream or dual mono stream. But can I add 6 channels to one stream?

You cannot export one QT file with both a 5.1 mix AND a stereo mix. It’s one or the other. To do a 5.1 Mix, click on the PRESETS dropdown menu and choose 5.1:

UNLESS you have all the separate stems and then assign them to audio tracks on the timeline, and then manually choose which is LEFT, which is RIGHT, which is center…all that.
