  Legal question

  Hey guys Im not sure the correct place to post this question. please direct me if there is a better location.
  But Im just curious about the laws with video editing and self promotion.
  Lets say you edit a short and nothing is signed or anything.
  do you have the right to post that on your own website?
  Im assuming , if you didn’t shoot it, the owner could ask you to remove it.
  But what if somebody is using your edit on their website.
  Do you have the right to ask them to remove it as the edit is your “creative property”?
  even if it is just the edit that you created. not the raw footage.
  all these situations are under the assumption that nothing has been signed.
  any help would be greatly appreciated.

  This is not the proper forum for your question as it has nothing whatsoever to do with FCP. You should pose the same question on the Cow’s Business & Marketing Forum.

  BTW, explain why you edited something without a deal in place and evidently without compensation, as people will ask you in order to understand how you got yourself in this position.

  STudent film…indie short film. Not a lot of those have “contracts.”

  Yes, post this on the business forum, but you should have the right to have it as part of your DEMO REEL…and yes, even though you didn’t sign anything, your edit isn’t your property…you agreed to edit something for someone else.
