I agree, unfortunately the talent is going to be seen in the shot, so it will be a wide shot of them (heads and all).

Funny enough, i saw the behind the scenes for one of those spots, and they used the real person, because i remember watching him rehearse it through thier head in the dressing room, and the whole thing was about how they were going to go about doing it, they actualy had a frame outside of the camera shot, that they referenced for the camera shot for the actor, but i believe they use the real celeb.

[Don Days] “I was planning on putting tracking points on the talents hands but not sure if this would really help all that much.”

It wouldn’t help that much, and it would probably cause a headache trying to remove the points. Other than that I can’t offer too much advice. Most of the tracking in this case probably won’t need to be perfect. It looks to me like some of what you see in that spot isn’t tracked, but rather placed by hand, and even those shots that may be tracked aren’t tracked perfectly.

If it comes right down to it you could attempt to animate Nulls (3D Nulls if you want to get that ‘stuck to the fingers’ look, but this complicates things) to follow the hands and parent/pick whip effects to these for some of the shots.
