  • Changing external hard drives with FCP 7

My current external hard drive is making these weird chugging noises so I think I should buy a new external hard drive to use instead. ALL of my footage and project files are on my current hard drive, and that is where my scratch disks are set (all off them). Ca someone please advise me on the way to transfer it all over so I can edit off my new hard drive?

    Thank you, Caroline.

    YES!
just buy a drive RIGHT NOW!!
    or rather: BUY TWO!

transfer the old drive to the new drive.
call the new drive the same name as the old one, and FCP will be none-the-wiser, and you can continue as if nothing had happened.

make a SECOND COPY onto the other new drive.
you are cray if you don’t have a backup ready to go.

Nick! Thanks – I bought another one and transferred it all via copy paste, opened the file and it’s grand!! Brilliant. Although I didn’t have to rename my scratch disks… I guess FCP was smart and figured it out that I would be working off that new one.

Old one sea gate 3TB, new one G Drive 4TB. Apparently G Drive is a reliable make!!
