XDCam movs… do i need the XML file?
Posted by Nick Meyers on February 6, 2015 at 11:36 pmAll our media is XDCam movs,
no backups of cards, so we’ll backup the move (and hope they’re all OK!)
along with each mov there’s a corresponding XML file.
i’m assuming we don’t need them anymore… correct?
i want to trash them all, but can move them elsewhere if needed.thanks

February 7, 2015 at 12:45 amDon’t delete a damn thing. Those files take up VERY little space…like, what? 20kb? So why toss them? Keep them in case for some reason they are needed. Some cameras shoot XDCAM as QT files, and store metadata in those files. You might be dealing with someone who selectively archived a card.
Don’t throw away anything, especially something that small.

the main reason to get them out of the way is alleviate the problems they cause when we bring the folders onto FCP.
each one brings up messages which need to be clicked away,
and there are thousands of these.there are NO CARDS left, only the Quicktimes.

ok just tested again:
dragging the folder into FCP= 3 clicks per file = 3000 clicks
Import folder = 1 click per import = 1 click if i import the enclosing folder -
