FCP 7 with Sony NX5 Files
I’m new to the forum but you all have helped other issues that were resolved through previously established posts.
We just got Sony Nx5N cameras and I am using FCP 7 on a Mac. I shoot a lot of sports highlights, features, etc. I’ve got the concept of using Log and Transfer with the .mts files but is there any way around the conversions taking up so much space? Fills up quickly when trying to edit an entire football game.
If you have ideal import/export settings and tips I would appreciate it.

FCP converts the MTS files to ProRes, and the file sizes increase. Sorry, but there is no avoiding this if you want to use FCP to edit this footage. If you need to keep the file sizes small, you can try to convert to ProRes LT, but those files are still much larger than the MTS files.
There are editing apps that can work with this footage natively, without converting. Adobe Premiere Pro and FCP-X for example. But AVCHD is a highly compressed format and a bear to edit. It’s best to convert it.
You can also get larger hard drives. They aren’t too expensive lately.
