  Use Of Oval Iris

  I have an ending scene in my movie that is a still image. It is scaled up in size and then, over the next 12 seconds, scales down to bring a subject into focus. I would like to end it with a blue oval iris that starts from outside the edges, and gradually closes in to envelop the entire screen in blue.

  Can someone please walk me through the process as to how to accomplish this?? I’ve been fussing with it for the last two days, and would really appreciate any help.

  For iris-ing, i prefer to use the Vignette FIlter.
  very controllable.
  in the past i used the free Marcus Herrick plugin, but FCP has it’s own now.
  the Marcus one is simpler.

  however, zooming the image as well as adding the iris adds a twist.
  you could create the move, nest the clip, and add the vignette filter.

  OR you could place some Matte> Color set to white on V2, and add the Vignette filter to that, and set it to the appropriate composite mode: screen or multiply (i forget which)

  Thanks, Nick. Guess I’ll have to read up or look for tutorials on nesting…and use of the vignette. Can’t seem to put it all together??
