    Hi,
I was just wondering if anyone might be able to help me figure out which new computer would be best for me.

I currently use AE 6.5 on a G4 15″ Powerbook 1.33GHz, 1.25G ram. However this machine is slowly dying. The screen is flickering due to a connection somewhere, and it seems to be getting slower in rendering and handling images and footage.

As I use Final Cut Pro also I will be sticking with Apple. However I can’t afford a Mac Book Pro so I’m wondering if a MacBook or iMac would do the job? I’m looking to try and stay under

Well, the MacBook would not have the Graphics Card you need to run any motion software like AE or Apple Motion. So, its the iMac in that battle.

The new iMacs 20″ Basic, actually is more than basic, and more than suffice. I have seen those machines work wonders with the 2.2 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo, 1 GB of Ram (Upgradeable) and the Ati 128 MB Graphics card.

If you feel you are still on a budget look for the older iMac 20″ or even a older 17″ iMac with the better graphics card. (Saw one for here in the states for less than $700) Maybe even check into the older 15″ Macbook pros. They keep making new ones that even my MacBook Pro has dropped significantly since I bought it mid last year.

Just make sure whatever you go with you get a system with at least 2GB of RAM and a STANDALONE Graphics Card with 128mb or better. Standalone like ATI and NVIDIA.

    Good Luck in your search.

the new MacPro announced today will likely result in the used Macintosh market getting a boost of excellent machines. This will take a few months to happen. Sit on your money for a while.

You can also visit the apple.com store and look for refurbished MacPro systems.

This is my standard sigfile so do not take it personally: “For crying out loud, read the freakin’ manual.”

Thanks for all your help. I think I will probably wait for an Intel iMac to show up in the refurbished store. I have seen the 24″ models go for under
