  The proper way to import alpha pict

  Hello,
  I have finished a 40min project using apple prores 422 clips.
  I have exported the whole movie as a apple prores 422 HQ.
  I’d like to add some images made in illustrator.
  What is the best format to use from illustrator to Final cut knowing that I have worked on a 190×1080 format and that some of the image is to be transparent ?
  I would use TIFF, but then when I import the image into final cut, setting the tranparency is never an easy thing to do, I always have to try the different settings in Modify>Alpha Type.

  Or should my movie by exported as AProRes 444 ?

  32-bit Targa of tiff works for me. .PSD of course, too. .png is what’s popular but I’d always heard that .png was popular with game makers because the images are more compact, but lower-rez, and that could lead to some issues in video later. I didn’t follow that up but stick to targa and tiff out of habit as much as anything else. the bit depth is what enables true transparency layers so it has to be at least 32-bit.

  I use .png’s all the time. No issues.
