  Using 1080i in an SD timeline

  Hi-
  I have a FCP7 timeline that is mainly composed of SD material, so it is an SD timeline. 720×480, 29.97, to be exact.
  I have a few shots that are HDV- 1080i60 (1440×1080), 29.97 fps.
  The timeline looks fine for all of the SD footage but the HD footage looks like crap. I have tried changing the field dominance in the sequence settings, because the sequence has upper field dominance and the HD has lower field dominance, but that didn’t help so I changed it back.
  Any suggestions on how to improve the look of the HD in my SD timeline?

  you could click on your HD clip and then click on Effects/Video Filters/Video/Shift Fields.

  We could use a more detailed and technical description of what “looks like crap” actually means. That might help us figure out how to fix it. Describe the bad footage or post a still here if possible.

  Well- hmm, summoning my powers of description…
  it looks blurry, sort of low res, and the shot itself is a pan, so there’s a jerky quality to it… plus there are some horizontal and vertical lines in the shot and they flicker during the pan. Hope that gives you some clues.

  thanks, Dave. I’ll switch the fields around and see what happens.
  How would I go about scaling up and reframing? Take the size up from the current 50 and move the shot around in the frame?
