    Hi

I have a Macbook Pro (15″ 2.4 GHz Intel Core i5 mid 2010) with 4GB memory at the moment.

As I’ve been working more and more on HDV projects within FCP and using After Effects as well, things are getting slow!

I know eventually I’m going to need to get an iMac but for now, two questions:

    1. Would it be worth my while investing in an 8GB RAM upgrade for a 3+ year old machine?

    2. Would the increase in rendering times etc be noticeable?

(The hard drive and power unit were replaced end of last year).

    Any thoughts, experiences much appreciated.

[Maria Meredith] “1. Would it be worth my while investing in an 8GB RAM upgrade for a 3+ year old machine?”

Yes. FCP uses 4GB of RAM, but your OS needs some too. And if you have any other apps open at the same time..they need RAM. So more RAM will help.

[Maria Meredith] “2. Would the increase in rendering times etc be noticeable?”

Sorry, no. Render times are only affected by processor speed.
