  • YouTube videos and DVD Broadcast Monitor?

I don’t have a broadcast monitor and I have my HDTV display as close as I can to my laptop screen. All my videos on YouTube and DVD when viewed on multiple computers and TV’s all look the same. Do I really need a broadcast monitor. I am both the filmmaker and editor so I know what the right colors were when I was filming so I can pretty much auto correct it to what I saw when I filmed. I’ve heard various filmmakers tell me a broadcast monitor is only for TV airing and that everyone has their displays different anyway and if I rely on the video scopes in Final Cut X I can set those to be correct. I also check my final projects on three different monitors. A macbook Pro a TV and a second small display.

No. Only those projects aimed at TV broadcast need those. And HDTV is perfectly fine.

Okay. What if I’m making a project for YouTube DVD and TV? Do I have to then get a broadcast monitor for TV airing or can a studio do it for me? I have basic equipment.

If your project is bound for TV, it’s best to hire an Online editor…someone skilled at delivering shows for broadcast. because there are many many other aspects to this other than color correction. Making it “broadcast legal,” for one.
