HDV move video playback issues
Hello all,
I have mov files of concerts of about 1.5 hours long that I created in 2011.
I need to send that to someone but I’m having issue with the playback of those video files.
When I open in QuickTime and start playing, the image freezes after a second and audio continues. I can place the player head anywhere and the audio will be ok but the image still frozen where it was.I tried opening in VLC and same problem. I tried coping the files to my notebook drive and to play of the internal drive of my computer, same problem. I have other videos in mov in the same hard drive and they play fine. It those ones about 1.5 to 2GB files 1440 x 1080 that I’m having issue with.
Is there a way to verify if the file are corrupted ? Is there a way to fix that ?

Open a new timeline and set it up for Pro Res 422 at 1920×1080. Drop your files onto that timeline and do NOT allow FCP to match settings to the file.
Now, see if your material plays.
BTW, what OS are you running?

Thank you for your insight. I tried a few things here are the updates.
I tried repairing the file with a software called StellarPhonixMOV Repair. It did not work.
I tried repairing the file with a software called Remo Repair MOV. It did not work.
I tried opening my file in Pavtube MXF (recommended by a friend). It did not work.However:
The file opens and plays fine in MPEG streamclip.
I did the Apple Pro Res timeline trick you told me. It requires render. I render a small bit (2 minutes) and it plays fine. It works. I run OS 10.8.5I need to find a practical and economicall way to either fix those files without it taking to much work time. Or I will have to reexport the originasl from the FCP project and put them on HD for the person who needs it.
Let me know what you advise me to do next.

Your RT settings should be set to dynamic, then rendering won’t be necessary.

For some reason I don’t have that option.
Under RT I have “Play back Base layer only”
and under Record to Tape “Use Playback Settings” or “Fully Quality”.motion pictures + storytelling = ?

Oh. I found what the issue is.
The mov files are reference files not self contained video.
Thats why. But normally it should play.motion pictures + storytelling = ?
