New Macbook Pro and FCP 7
I just received my new Macbook Pro Retina in the mail (OS X 9), and transferred all the data from my hard drive to it.
I tried to copy over FCP 7 from my applications folder on my old Mac external hard drive to my new Macbook, but it seems an application like FCP can’t just be copied over like this.
If that is the case, does anyone have any advice on what to do? I am in the midst of editing a big project on FCP 7 for the past year, and want to continue. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Install from the original discs. Or did you lose those in a move?

Thanks for your response, Shane. I no longer have the discs her with me- was several years and two international moves ago. Also, the new macbook doesn’t have a cd/dvd drive anymore.
I’m also wondering, though, if anyone has successfully used fcp 7 on the brand new macbook pro, as I have been hearing mixed reviews?Life is worth living.

In order for FCP to work correctly, you will need the original install discs. A finder copy will not install all the files needed.
1. You can take your old hard drive and use that as a boot disc.

Apple sells external DVD drives. I have one myself.
And sorry, but if you want FCP to work properly, you need to install it from those discs. Migrating simply will not work. Always hold onto your software installers.

I just used FCP7 on a Retina MacBookPro. Other that a few minor beach ballers during editing everything worked well. The funny things was that I didn’t have one single crash, and this was at the place I always have FCP7 crash issues and corrupt projects when using their 12-Core Mac Pros, connected to the same server.

I used Migration Assistant to transfer my entire 2010 Macbook Pro into my brand new Retina Macbook Pro, including FCP 7 which works fine and renders faster in the new machine. Other than reinstalling from the app disks, Migration Assistant may be the only practical method.
