  • shape layer “disappears” when rendered

In AE 8, the shape layer is layer #1 in timeline; it has effects on it and is in view when manually tracking through the sequence with the playhead. Problem: when rendered, the layer disappears. The layer is turned on/eye icon visible in time line. When the comp window is visible during the render, the shape in the comp window disappears as soon as the render begins. What do I need to do to make the layer part of the render? Thanks.

Have you tried pre-composing the layer?

Thanks for the precomp suggestion. That was one thing that I didn’t do as I usually think to precomp when there are multiple layers. The other 5 layers were precomped, not this “shape” one. For some reason, after rebuilding the permissions and rebooting the G5, the comp was recognized and was “amenable” to being edited and rendered. Thanks again for the reply
