I need help with creating a liquid/plasma light effect unlike the ones in this sites tutorials. To give an example of what im looking to do. Have a look at VDO’s website,www.vdo.tv look at the demo reel they have in the portfolio. In the first news open of the reel you see a very cool liquid light effect going on around the 16. I’ve also seen the effect in TV shows and such and I’ve seen it loop too but anyway. I was wondering if there is a tutorial somewhere that shows how to do that effect or if someone could kinda point me in the right direction.

I think it might be that old freebie, Sinedots with some blur on it, but then maybe not. Check out Sinedots at:

After fooling with sinedots, I think that is it. You can get some nice color changes with some of the Colorama presets (like solarize red) and/or with Adjust Hue/Saturation-colorize. I’m glad you asked your Q, I just rediscovered a lost toy, one I didn’t appreciate long ago. Thanks.

yep… that’s just Sinedots with a heavy glow applied to it. Transfer mode a gradient on top of it to colorize the different areas.

Sinedots has to be the best free filter out there. Cool stuff… although can be a little tough to get your head around.

    cheers,
    Jim

    Yup,….u guys got it.

I used Sinedot II, and used Shine on it w/colorize 3 point to give color. If I remember there may have been another instance of the Sdot filter on top in add mode. But no glow effect.

Thanks so much guys! I was getting so frustrated trying to create the effect with the AE package effects.

Looks like you’re sorted but my recipe which works great is to distort a bunch of Knoll Light Factory lens flares with Turbulent Distortion from Image Lounge. Both plug-ins are from Red Giant Software and are pretty much at the top of my essentials list. Image Lounge also has Fractal Fire with a ‘plasma’ preset which I use a lot. Seriously these plug-ins are well worth checking out.
