  • How do I make highest quality DVD

Posted by Jesse Kane on May 6, 2013 at 7:57 am

    Hello there,
I am working on a project shot on a 5D, all my footage was converted to pro res 422 HQ and cut on Final Cut 7. I am attempting to make the highest quality DVD possible. My attempts seem to make the image slightly muddy and I appear to have some banding issues.

    My process so far:

Export QuickTime movie at current settings.
    Drag it to Toast.
    Make DVD!

    Any thoughts?

    Thanks!

You must have the “Frame Control ON” in order to make a proper downscaling and processing of the Prores master.
Then try to set the higher data rate you can allow for the MPEG-2 conversion.

Making the highest quality DVD starts with your original acquisition. If your production value is good, so will your DVD.

Compression techniques also need to be considered. There is no magic button to push.

Another alternative to DVD is a digital copy or BluRay.

Note: a DVD is SD, not HD like your footage. There will be softness in comparison.
