  FCP7 – Maintaining Resolution Across Nested Sequences

  I’ve got some still images being made up at 1080p and want to finish the project at 1080p. All good so far but it will save me many hours if I can first place the still images in an existing, complex 720p sequence and scale them up and rack them a little and then drag that sequence (nest) into my 1080p timeline master.

  It seems this process will effectively downconvert my still images to 720p. Is there any way I can maintain the optimal resolution of my still images and lose only to the extent that I scale the images on the timeline?

  media managing your sequence may scale up you motion effects on the stills.
  give it a test and see how it goes.

  Appreciate the note Nick but I’m a little slow on the uptake sometimes … can you please explain what you mean by ‘media manage’? What would I do in the Media Manager to try it out?

  Sorry, Steve, i dashed that post off.

  cut some stills into your 720 edit sequence and manipulate them.
  then select that section, and open up Media Manager

  use “Create Offline”
  and set sequences to your 1080 settings.

  you’ll be asked to create a new project,
  and when you open it the stills should still be connected

  MM usually upscales any motion effects on Video,
  but i’m not sure how it will handle still images.
