  Prores files to big – video for internet quailty not needed

  Hi,

  I have some mpg files and I’m currently converting them to prores LT (lowest quality), with mpeg streamclip, so I can edit them with final cut – but my hard drive is running out of space. The quality of the files don’t matter so does anyone know a small file type supported by final cut? Or any options I should tick on mpeg streamclip to make the file smaller?

  You can use PhotoJPEG.
  Lowering the quality slid you will reduce the file size.

  ProRes Proxy is decent quality. The Photo JPEG Rafael refers to is called “Offline RT” or “Offine RT HD,” and is a VERY low quality codec meant for offline editing only…meaning that later you will reimport/capture the footage at higher resolution later. It isn’t a finishing format.
