How to create Shadow/Dropshadow on web presenter (chroma key)?
Hi everyone,
I have created a pretty decent chroma key (in my modest opinion) for a short, but I need to have the shadow or drop shadow effect like I saw for example on this web suite: https://www.mywebpresenters.com
Can anyone explain how can I add this shadow to the person?
I am using a combination of FCP 7 and Motion.

I would try this way:
– Duplicate the keyed picture (V track 2 & 3).
– To the picture in layer 2, apply the 3W-CC filter and then put all the Luminance and saturation down, to make it black.
– Then apply some blur, and distort it and low the transparence down.

Whatever filter in FC or Motion that convert the picture in pure black.

Rafe’s method is what I use, though if the presenter never moves from their spot, I sometimes cheat and just add a blurred spot generated from the multipoint masking tool, filled with black and the gaussian blur filter. Or a fake shadow drawn quickly and imported from Photoshop.
Rafe’s method takes advantage of the fact you have already generated a matte from the chromakey, so you duplicate that matte, and instead of filling it with the video of the person, you can fill it with black, and then angle it using the rotation and distort tools so that it looks like a light-motivated shadow to add depth to a scene. Blurring it a lot and keeping the opacity low helps sell it, this really needs to be subtle to read well. The nice thing about this method is that the shadow mirrors preceisely any motion by the character, be it walking or arms moving or whatever.

I’ll try the aforementioned method this afternoon and hopefully I’ll be successful, if not, I’ll ask for more help on this issue. It’s my first time playing with chroma key, so i’m keeping the fingers crosses. 🙂
