I’ve done searches and can tell you what people recommended five years ago, but haven’t seen anything on the current crop of software packages. I’ve been using the Primatte RT built into FCP 7 but have money in the budget to throw at something better if there’s something I should consider. Keylight perhaps? Are there others that I should consider? I can work in After Effects as well if that presents possibilities.

Really like the effect of wrapping a faint edge of the background around the foreground element as if the background is interacting with the foreground lighting — what packages offer that these days?

    Thanks for any input!

Yes, definitely Keylight. The best by far. Even though it doesn’t officially support Mountain Lion, their support were very quick and willing to help as I had a bit of bother getting the licence to install properly under ML. They fixed it quickly and all works perfectly.

Conduit 2.2. It’s still the best all-around tool for node-based compositing within FCP. Why use prepackaged keyers when you can custom-build better, more flexible keyers yourself?

dvMatte Pro 3. Quicker if you don’t want to get your hands dirty learning the nuts and bolts of compositing, but not as flexible as Conduit. Includes light wrap.

Also, check out Motion 5 – it has a great keyer, and it’s only $50.00.
