  • Import DVD clips with Mpeg Streamclip: what settings?

Posted by Davide Marchesi on October 20, 2012 at 12:58 pm

Hello, tomorrow I will be given a few amateurish (non-commercial) DVDs from which I will have to import some clips to be then edited in FCP 7.
I know this is a common topic but I’ve been reading threads for a couple of hours and, although I got most of the process right I believe, I wasn’t able to find specific information about the settings I should import the clips with.

DVDs are gonna be most likely PAL and from what I understand the best way to go is use Mpeg Streamclip selecting in and out points for the clips I need to import. The format could be either Apple ProRes or DVCpro50 is I’m not mistaken.

What I’m missing is what I should do whether the DVDs will be progressive or interlaced: should I just keep the format as is? Meaning, progressive should stay progressive and interlaced should remain interlaced?
Also, how can I find out if it’s interlaced or progressive?

    Thanks for your help
