  Converting 25fps QT file to NTSC

  Hi there,
  I have recently output a prores 25fps 1920 progressive file. The client, an airline, needs it delivered as NTSC to be played inflight.
  I took it to a facilities house who output it as 29.97 interlaced but when viewed on my computer it looks rubbish.

  Does this sound correct what they’ve done?

  “As the source was 25fps progressive we did the best standards conversion which involved:

  1) Slow down 25fps source to 23.98
  2) Added 3:2 pulldown to get to 29.97.

  When played back on a progressive monitor your client will see interlacing every 4th and 5th frame, however when played back on a broadcast monitor everything looks good.

  By adding 3:2 pulldown we’ve avoided duplicate and/or blended frames during the standards conversion.”

  It will look like rubbish. Computers don’t playback interlaced video well. ONly progressive. How is the airline going to play back the video? Computer screens? Or HDTVs? HDTVs do interlacing fine.

  What they said sounds correct, and is what I would do.
