FCPro using QT export componant to create an AVI file to move to PC
I need a workflow that allows me to create high quality standard def Window Media Video (.WMV) files from Final Cut Pro 7. I record meetings which can go from 1 to 4 hours.
I’ve just wasted a few days with Flip4Mac. Their $49 version is horribly crippled and limited to a handful of low quality presets. After that experience, I’m not prepared to spend another $179 for encoding that is free on the PC.
The free Windows Media Encoder (also knows as the silverlight encoder) available from Microsoft is great but it only accepts a handful of video formats. AVI is the best choice there.
The problem is converting to AVI. If I take the QT DV file to the PC and convert to AVI there, the file quality suffers horribly due to Apples crappy version of QT on the PC. If I try to export to AVI on the Mac using the QT export component (or Compressor) I get an AVI file that is somehow broken – on playback there’s an error about the index file being missing.
I realize most of you aren’t messing with Standard Def anymore but if someone knows a workaround for this problem, I sure would appreciate it.
