  Default footage: DV50 PAL 16:9. Adding up GoPro Hero – what format is best?

  Our camera records DV50 (HPX500). Native dimension 720×576 (1024×576)@25fps

  We have a GoPro as backup, recording 1920×1080@25fps, progressive.

  Now, what format would be the best for mixed playback?

  I can export (either using MPEG Streamclip of QT 7) to a variety of format, but I don’t have unlimited disk.
  Saving as DV50 (same as default footage) is one option, but how does the progressive->interlaced thing work?

  Perhaps it’s better so stick with ProRes LT?

  Any tips are greatly appreciated!

  We’ll stay in SD, since that is our default format.

  Downconverting to DV50 is perhaps one way to go? But what about going from progressive to interlaced?

  And if so, what tool does the best job?

  Convert the GoPro to Prores.
  Will work well on a DV50 sequence.

  Progressive stuff has no problem on an interlaced sequence. No the otherway around.

  Try MPGstreamclip to transcode and downconvert at once. You can make the footage 1020×576 SQ pixels, so will fit.
