How Can I Get 3D Text Into SWF Files?
Posted by Bernd Garving on December 7, 2007 at 11:09 amHi there …
… I’d like to transfer an AE animation that contains 3D text into an SWF file. This file should be as small as possible. Any chance?
Thanks in advance.

December 7, 2007 at 3:13 pmThis page of the help files tells you what stays vector. Open the “Supported features for SWF export” link:
Text is exported as graphics but not 3D layers. The best way to simulate that is with scale and rotation of the 2D text layers, any animation preset that doesn’t use 3D layers will yield extremely small files. Many of the Animate In or Animate Out presets look 3D but are 2D.
Here is a tut on using AE text layers to create small swf’s when brought into Flash, 5k in his example, but alas, 2D:

Note: Also, even with doing everything right, AE doesn’t optimized it’s Flash vector files as good as Flash does (I’m back on AE 6.5, so maybe that’s improved), so Import you completed SWF into Flash, then Publish that again and the resulting files will be considerably smaller, I’ve seen identical looking files shrink by as much as one tenth when republishing from Flash. So Lee’s exampl might have been 50k out of AE… it sounds crazy but is true.
But no 3D layers as vectors.

December 7, 2007 at 3:55 pmNot sure what your doing with the 3D Text, but if your up for doing the work outside of AE,
you could check out Swift
https://www.erain.com/Products/swift3d/I also know a recent (5+) copy of Maya will use the ravix engine for vector output to SWF.
If your up for some experimental programming you can always hit up papervision also 🙂
Otherwise you will probably just wanna stick with something like ProAnimator and export to FLV for flash.
