  • G drive mini: issues with copying files

Posted by Sean Kirkland on September 2, 2012 at 11:08 pm

    Hi:

I have a G drive mini. Trying to use it with my MBP. When I begin copying files from the drive onto the MBP drive, it starts but somewhere in the process, I get the spinning beach ball of death. Or, sometimes, it will begin the copying process and say it’s determining how much time the transfer will take, but it never starts.

When I can’t get anything to happen, I’ll try force quitting the Finder where the drive is active, but it just hangs. I eventually have just cut the drive off (I know, not supposed to) and then things snap back into normality.

Is it something to do with the files? Corrupted?

Can you play the files on the drive?
Do you have enough memory available in the MBP?

Yes, the drive works fine when on the Mac Pro desktop.

The MBP is a couple of weeks new. It has plenty of memory. I believe it’s enough to be available for the drive to function correctly and copy files.

I ended up just copying the files directly from the CF card to the MBP and it worked fine. Not sure why the G drive keeps hanging up.
