FCP7 DV/HDV mixed project, should I capture as DV
I have a project which has a mixture of DV and HDV footage but it has all been captured as DV (The player was set to output DV). As over 50% of the footage is DV the sequences are set to DV.
Was wondering if there is any advantage of recapturing the HDV (also I have more stuff to capture and was wondering if I should do this as HDV). This would make cropping in possible and make Smoothcam more doable. Are there any other advantages? Will it make noise reduction (Nice Video) work better or give more leeway for grading/levels etc.
Lastly can I mix HDV and DV on a DV sequence, if so are there any issues?

PS please do not say use prores as there is currently around 2.5TB of footage.

Well, if you recapture you could deliver HD I suppose. Otherwise the DVD is going to be standard definition anyway.
If you captured it all as ProRes, you would end up with 10 bit graphics etc…

DV is such an awful codec even for a DVD. HDV will give you a better image and room for smooth cam or other reframing. However you will have the constant problem of field order as HDV is upper and DV lower plus constant rendering. I would recommend your final sequence be set to ProRes422 so the final render will do some justice to the HDV content and the graphics.
Most broadcasters want HD so if you have such a high DV ratio you might struggle to find a broadcaster interested.

Jerry, so you are saying there is no real advantage of HDV if I am delivering DV?
prores is not really an option as I have 2.5TB of footage. Can I recapture in process or do I have to totally rebuild edit?

Michael, So if I have HDV and DV n the same timeline I will have to keep re-rendering, regardless if it is a HDV or DV sequence. Also is it easy to change the sequence from DV to HDV.
Lastly are you saying the final thing would look better if I had a DV sequence and HDV footage?
