I’m trying to place a 44.1 KHz mp3 onto the timeline, but it keeps asking to render them first. Even though the sequence is set to 44.1.
Are there any other settings I need to change? The rendering is causing those pops and hics.

Yes. YOu need to convert the MP3 to AIFF…and to 48kHz. FCP doesn’t like MP3’s pretty much at all. And really, 44.1 is for CDs…not video production. YOU need to convert the files to 48k.

48kHz 16-bit stereo aiff files. Compressor has presets for this.

Don’t forget to make sure your sequence is also set to 48khz which, as Shane said, is standard for video
