  Multiclip Frame Dropping

  When playing back my multi clip in the timeline, every 5 annoying seconds I am getting the drop frame error:

  RT Extreme has determined these dropped frames were caused by slow disks. Please try:
  -Increasing the speed of your disks.
  -Decreasing the number of RT layers.
  -Limiting your RT bandwidth in User Preferences.

  What is weird is that last week I had no problems editing a multi cam project identical to this one. Same hard drive, same MacPro, same file codec/format (AVCHD converted to ProRes 422 through log and transfer). Both were only 2 camera shoots, and both were about 45 min long. I think it might have only gave me this same error ONCE in hours of editing. I was even able to have the RT quality and frame rate at Dynamic or high quality, but for this project it drops even set at low and quarter. Each solo clip is ProRes 422, 1920×1080 and is just under 50GB.

  Why the change? Any help would be awesome!

  Hard Drive: 7200 RPM 500GB (Hitachi HDS725050KLA360 Media)
  Graphics: ATI Radeon X1900 XT 512 MB
  Software: Mac OS X Lion 10.7.4
  FCP 7.0.3

  Matt,

  Did you every get anywhere with this? I am experiencing the same issue. Last week I edited a 10 camera multi-clip without problems. Today, same camera sources same codecs, I am trying to edit a 7 camera multi-clip and I am only getting dropped frame errors.

  Did you get it working?

  Believe it or not, it was a fragmented hard drive. It actually CAN happen to a Mac. After defragging, it has worked fine. Good luck.
