Schindler’s List Effect
I have only recently started using after effects so Im sure that what I ask has been asked many ttimes before but never the less I need to learn somehow.
I have been asked to cut an ad and the plan is to use the Schindler’s List effect, where the picture is grey but there is one color (the little girl in the red dress). The ad has been shot but I have not seen the rushes yet. I need to leave in blue but Im worried that if there is any similar colours I will not be able to take them out.
I there anything I can do that will save my sanity?

You could use the Leave Color effect, possibly set to RGB, if I recall. If that keeps blue colors outside your subject, draw and animate a rough mask around the subject to cut out everything around the talent. Or draw a mask around the offending blue bits and set to “inverse”. Check the Help for animating masks.
Since the mask will cut out everything around the talent, you’ll need to have a duplicate footage layer below the masked layer to show the stuff that has been cut out.,

I’ll give what you said a go. WOWfactorx I have a very close deadline for this project and as much as I relish the idea of looking through title upon title for the right one, I really should do some work on the projiect itself. I was only looking for a bit of advise but clearly you believe I should take the long way round. Cheers for that.

Fair enough, I can understand how a tight deadline would make searching a less than ideal way to find the information you need. I’m glad Steve was able to point you in the right direction.
I must say though, that I’m amazed at the number of people who post here, looking for answers, while a deadline looms. Of course, we all have moments when time gets away on us.

Your right a lot of people post when the deadline looms but I think (for myself anyway) that you kinda want to figure it out yourself first so you spend the first part of the project trying out ways and then the deadline is right on top of you and niothing is working do you have to ask the experts that seem to be here on these forums.
I have to say I am surprised you replied so quickly. Normally I dont get replies until the next day.
