ZOOM H1 vs FINAL CUT PRO
I recorded a live show last night (stand up comedy). I held a zoom h1 voice recorder in my hand while I spoke into the mic to record my voice. The camera was far away. I then transferred the video and audio into final cut. I synched the zoom recorder audio with the camcorder video. At first, it is perfect. As the video goes on it gets more and more out of synch until it is completely off. Why does this happen and is there a way to correct it? Thank you for your help.

Audio that is synced at the start but then slides out of sync throughout and to the end usually means you have differing audio settings. Check your Zoom H1 setting (for instance 48khz 24bit) and make sure that is the same as your sequence’s audio settings. I would also make sure the framerate of your footage is matching your sequence settings.

Sample rate matters but by far the most common cause for sync slip is the way FCP stamps a frame rate on audio. FCP calls this a feature but it is so annoying that we answer this same question a few times every week.
Matt Lyon thankfully did a tutorial that explains why and how to fix it. By far the simplest is to reimport the file the way Matt explains it in the second half of the tutorial. The first half is about fixing a whole lot of problem audio in a sequence which is worth knowing about but deleting and reimporting the audio is most likely to be the fix.

It’s amazing that FCP has been around for quite sometime, and I’ve been a user for the same amount of time, and yet I still learn something new everyday. Thanks for that link.
It’s funny, I always set my sequence settings to my workflow, but when you have to, inevitably, multiple times throughout the years, trash your prefs because of some system error or bug, it sets it back to DV NTSC. The last time I did this, I forgot to check that again, and have been working this way for a short while now. Bummer.
