  fcp7 won’t play rendered blue areas

  Hi

  I’m having a weird issue I’ve never experienced before

  I’m onlining an Project I graded and round tripped with DaVinci.

  It is 2048×873 PR 422 HQ.

  FCP will only either play back the files that don’t need rendering (ie native to the sequence) or the rendered files (say with a transistion or motion fx) with the blue bar. Whichever type I start on the it plays that but when the playhead hits a file of the other type it freezes video playback.

  Any ideas, known issue etc?

  It’s either your non-standard frame size or your render files are on a drive that can’t keep up. I think it’s the non standard size… FCP does not like them much.

  thought it might be the size though it is 2k academy scope – so a pretty standard DCP-prep frame size I thought.

  These are the sizes supported for real time playback (copy/pasted from the FCP7 Pro Formats Guide)

  • 2048×1024
  • 2048×1080(AppleProRes4444only)
  • 2048×1152
  • 2048×1556(AppleProRes4444only)
