  • Offline Files looking at completely different file

Having issues where at times, after opening a project, some files are offline and some are not. The files that are offline are looking for something completely different then what the actual file is. All files in project are located on a SAN with different storage volumes and folder locations. In order to fix this, closing project without saving and rebooting computer fixes the issue. Another fix is exporting the sequence as an XML and re-importing files will be online.

Has anyone ever seen this issue or know why it may occur. Trying to figure out where the issue/bug is. Could be FCP, the SAN, or the OS.

Using FCP 7.0.3, MAC OS 10.6.5, also seen issue with OS 10.6.8.

Do you have media with the same first name? Such as UNTITLED, UNTITLED-1…multiple times? That can cause issues.

Yeah there’s files such as CAM0001, CAM0002…. Some have sub clips at the end so CAM0001_S001, CAM0001_S002… etc. Any idea as to why the same name is throwing things off?

FCP’s media management is lackluster. It looks at file names and timecode mainly. If two clips have the same name, then it tries to connect to that. Always give unique names when possible.
