FCPX 10.0.2 output text animation choppy? please look at images attached
I am making my first commercial!
i made the initial vector animation in flash, export out as .mov looks great.
now I imported in to Final Cut Pro X
I created a new FCPX project
its 1080i HD 1920 x 1080this is the HD version for a commercial
I added some video, audio etc preview looks great
to export I go to
Share>Export Mediahere are the settings
when I export and play teh video the text animation from the flash video is “choppy” and has lines through it
this is really weird can you guys please help 🙁
when I use “Send To Compressor” the video do not have the choppy text animation
but I have no idea what settings I should use for the Compressor for HD TV commercial quality video

My guess is this does not happen on every frame, right?
If so, you probably got a mismatch in framerate between your QT and FCP settings. FCP is adding fields to compensate for that (thus, keeping the duration intact).
What you see is interlaced video. Nothing wrong with interlacing, (and it is broadcast standard), but if it happens due to a frame rate mismatch it will be ugly.
So re-render your QT at 29.97, or use Cinematools to conform it to 29.97.Bouke

thank you so much for you response.
Not only the imported video has the interlacing but alos some image position animations I did inside FCPX is interlaced as well.
Is there a way to verify that this is not from the frame rate? also this must be in 1080i for the TV network can I use compressor 4 to make sure frame rate etc is done properly so it is 1080i and the animation looks fine on TV? can you please assist me with this?

If there is indeed an FPS mismatch, would that not cause dropped or duplicated frames on the Flash stuff?

No question. FCPX has timeline conform tools that will essentially play the file back @ the proper timeline speed with no interpolation.
Hrayr should definitely take your advice and make sure it’s playing back at the proper speed.

looks like its playing at the right speed
is this correct?
the entire video is interlaced seems like not just the flash animation that was imported as a mov file
also when I convert it to 1080p the animation looks fine but the station needs it in 1080i

and when I click on the video inside the timeline here is the framerate for that
is this a problem? seems like its off by .56 ?
i re-exported the video from flash but when I put it in FCPX it sets the frame rate to 30.1

Yes. Honestly, a couple of clients have asked me to turn Flash animations in to video, and I never have really good luck doing it. It’s always a kludge. What you should do is conform the speed of the file on the timeline using the “Conform Speed” command. You can find it in the Retime section of the tool bar. This will ensure that the animation will playback @ 29.97 without interpolation. It will change the length of it, though, so make sure you account for the time difference to make sure you’re still @ :30.
To Bouke’s point, and he’s exactly right, this is like using Cinema Tools without using Cinema Tools.
I would still keep your timeline 1080p (don’t convert the file, just use a 1080p timeline setting). Your broadcaster will play it back as psf (which is essentially 1080i). If you deliver a 1080 file, or have that file laid off to any 1080 HD tape, you’re all good. How are you planning to physically deliver the spot?
